Several wood-product manufacturers offer I-beam “timbers” as a substitute for solid lumber floor joists. Tape Company, “The black diamonds which appear every 19 3/16” on metal tape measures are for spacing I-beam “timbers”. However, “Black Diamond Spacing” is ideal because the space between studs at that spacing is 17.7”.Īccording to the U.S. A chimney that size wouldn’t fit between studs that are installed on 16”-centers because there is only 14-1/2” between the studs. Why would this matter? A standard concrete block chimney is two bricks by two bricks or roughly 16 inches square. The black diamonds on the tape measure represent that spacing. If you divide an 8-foot space (typical sheet of plywood or sheetrock length) by 5 we get a spacing of 19.2”. The diamonds or triangles on the tape measure occur every 19.2 inches. There are some highlighted numbers (16, 32, 48, etc) usually in red, that mark the typical on center spacing for studs, joists, and rafters. Why are there some numbers in red and what is with the little diamonds or triangles? Some tapes will print the fractions down to the eighths. The shortest lines measure 1/32, so there are 32 in an inch. The second shortest lines are the sixteenth inch hash marks. The third shortest lines are the eighth inch hash marks. There are 4 quarter inches in every inch. The line that is a little shorter than the half inch mark is the quarter inch. The next longest hash mark, or line, is the half inch mark. Lines on the tape measure and what they are for. For example, 16 inches has a red 1F4 OR 1-4 because it is 1 foot and 4 inches. Those smaller numbers in red are the feet plus inches. After the 1F or 12 inch mark, you will notice a smaller red number. The big numbers in black are the inches and they also have the longest hash mark. What are all of those black hash marks on the tape measure? Add this to the length of the measurement on the tape when measuring into a corner. On the bottom of the case you’ll find the measurement of the case. Add the number on the case to your flat tape measure length to get an accurate overall measurement. If you are measuring into a corner, stick the case in the corner with the tape extended away from the corner. The case has marks on it showing how long it is. You wouldn’t want to do a 90° bend in your metal tape measure. Why is there a measurement on the side of my tape measure? That is on purpose and is explained below. The metal piece on the end of the tape measure that seems kind of loose. Stand out is when the blade is extended and doesn’t bend. The wider the blade the better the stand out. The Imperial units (inches) are most often labeled along the top edge but there may also be Metric (centimeters) labeled along the bottom edge. The tape, or blade, is used for measuring. There is a stop which can be engaged by the thumb lock that will keep the tape from retracting. This is what pulls the blade/tape back in to wind it up. The blade attaches to the end of the spring. There is a flat metal spring wound around a spindle in the center of the tape. Slide this thumb lock over to clamp the tape in place to keep it from automatically retracting. If you have a tool belt or find the clip gets caught on things, just unscrew the belt clip and it can be easily removed. Hang the tape measure from your belt for easy access while working. Often the case length is labeled on the side. The longer the tape measure, the larger the case. This is the plastic or metal housing for the tape measure. Here is the basic breakdown of a standard tape measure: Anatomy of a tape measure Some may sport fancy features like lasers or magnets, and they come in varying lengths, but they all are designed to do the same thing- measure stuff. See how well you measure up.Īlmost all tape measures are the same. Here is a break down of the anatomy, basic uses and some tricks for maximizing the handiness of your tape measure. Basic measuring isn’t that difficult, but there are a few features on a tape measure that you may be overlooking. All of the included recipes have variations for both loaf sizes, which is really helpful, though the banana bread, cornbread, and cake recipes all call for boxed mixes, an odd choice that kind of defeats the purpose of the bread machine. The HomeBaker performed quite well in our tests, producing a loaf of fluffy sandwich-style white bread and an evenly baked banana bread using the recipes in the manual. Advanced bakers might be disappointed, however, as its 12 settings don't include any custom-programmable options. It has built-in settings for lots of different types of breads, as well as cakes and jams, and it can make either a 2-pound or 1.5-pound loaf using the same pan and paddle. The Hamilton Beach HomeBaker might be somewhat less heavy-duty than more expensive machines, but we found that it delivered delicious bread with that crisp crust and chewy texture that scream home-baked. This is a high-end machine with a price to match, though, so it might not be the best option for casual bakers or novices who aren’t sure how much use they’ll get out of a bread maker.ĭimensions: 18 x 10.5 x 12.875 inches | Weight: 24 pounds | Loaf Size: 2 pounds | Power: 700 watts Other features also stood out, from the unobtrusive alerts to the countdown timer to the easy-to-clean nonstick loaf pan. When we made banana bread, we got great color, even doneness, and perfect texture. We also appreciated that the Virtuoso Plus bakes loaves with a domed top, shaped more like a "real" loaf than the flat ones other models put out. On all of the test loaves, the Virtuoso produced great aeration on the interior and tasty bread with a crisp crust, a feature that's hard to achieve since machines bake at a cooler temperature than ovens. Each time, the finished loaf came out looking good, with a nice texture. We started adding different flours, changing the amount of butter, and even mixing the ingredients in a different order to see what would. Even when we strayed from recipes, the end result was consistent. We tried three basic bread recipes with this model, and they all turned out perfectly. A large window even lets you check the progress of your bread as it bakes. This machine has two kneading paddles to make sure no bits of flour are left unmixed, and it has a 13-hour delay timer so you can wake up to hot, fresh bread for breakfast. It has 15 different pre-programmed "courses" including a wide variety of bread, each with the choice of light, medium, or dark crust, but you can also create your own custom programs. Zojirushi Home Bakery Virtuoso Plus Bread Maker ReviewĪnyone who takes home baking seriously will appreciate all the features and options packed into this Zojirushi bread maker, and its performance during testing made it our best overall pick. He appears to have withdrawn from priestly duties, but he remained a priest. Vivaldi only said mass as a priest a few times. Not long after his ordination, in 1704, he was given a reprieve from celebrating the Holy Mass because of his ill health. He was soon nicknamed il Prete Rosso, "The Red Priest", because of his red hair. In 1693, at the age of 15, he began studying to become a priest. This did not prevent him from learning to play the violin, composing or taking part in musical activities, although it did stop him from playing wind instruments. His symptoms, strettezza di petto ("tightness of the chest"), have been interpreted as a form of asthma. Vivaldi's father may have been a composer himself: in 1689, an opera titled La Fedeltà sfortunata was composed by a Giovanni Battista Rossi, and this was the name under which Vivaldi's father had joined the Sovvegno di Santa Cecilia: "Rossi" is Italian for "Red", and would have referred to the colour of his hair, a family trait. The Luxembourg scholar Walter Kolneder has discerned in the early liturgical work Laetatus sum ( RV Anh 31, written in 1691 at the age of 13) the influence of Legrenzi's style. It is possible that Legrenzi gave the young Antonio his first lessons in composition. The president of the Sovvegno was Giovanni Legrenzi, a composer of the early Baroque and maestro di cappella at St. Giovanni Battista was one of the founders of the Sovvegno dei musicisti di Santa Cecilia, an association of musicians. He probably taught him at an early age, judging by Vivaldi's extensive musical knowledge at the age of 24 when he started working at the Ospedale della Pietà. Giovanni Battista, a barber before becoming a professional violinist, taught Antonio to play the violin, and then toured Venice playing the violin with his young son. Vivaldi had five siblings: Margarita Gabriela, Cecilia Maria, Bonaventura Tomaso, Zanetta Anna, and Francesco Gaetano. Vivaldi's parents were Giovanni Battista Vivaldi and Camilla Calicchio, as recorded in the register of San Giovanni in Bragora. Vivaldi's official church baptism (the rites that remained other than the baptism itself) did not take place until two months later. In the trauma of the earthquake, Vivaldi's mother may have dedicated him to the priesthood. Though not known for certain, the immediate baptism was most likely due either to his poor health or to an earthquake that shook the city that day. He was baptized immediately after his birth at his home by the midwife, which led to the belief that his life was somehow in danger. The church where Vivaldi was baptised: San Giovanni Battista in Bragora, Sestiere di Castello, Venice.Īntonio Lucio Vivaldi was born in Venice, the capital of the Republic of Venice in 1678. Today, Vivaldi ranks among the most popular and widely recorded Baroque composers. Though Vivaldi's music was well received during his lifetime, it later declined in popularity until its vigorous revival in the first half of the 20th century. The Emperor died soon after Vivaldi's arrival, and the composer died a pauper, without a steady source of income. After meeting the Emperor Charles VI, Vivaldi moved to Vienna hoping for preferment. Vivaldi also had some success with stagings of his operas in Venice, Mantua and Vienna. Many of his compositions were written for the female music ensemble of the Ospedale della Pietà, an orphanage for poor and illegitimate children where Vivaldi worked between 17. His best known work is a series of violin concertos known as The Four Seasons. Vivaldi is known mainly for composing instrumental concertos, especially for the violin, as well as sacred choral works and over 40 operas. Vivaldi is recognized as one of the greatest Baroque composers, and his influence during his lifetime was widespread over Europe. Antonio Lucio Vivaldi (Ma– July 28, 1741), nicknamed il Prete Rosso ("The Red Priest") was an Italian Baroque composer, priest, and virtuoso violinist, born in Venice. I haven’t tested DHCP but by the changes I made, NxFilter handles DNS for the system. It disables dnsmasq from handling DNS queries as far as I know. Having done all that, I did find another DNS filter that, I think, would be more suitable for native integration into NethServer, Pi-Hole: Īs time permits, I’ll set that up and compare the options. This project can then likely wait for Portainer to be more production ready. This way, NethServer is intact and its DNS is simply pointed at the filter. The next step was to re-instate DHCP services, yet, by then, I realised a better solution would be to install in a container: That, again, was reasonably trivial to install with nethserver-docker (portainer). I disabled NethServer dnsmasq, changed the nxfilter GUI ports and adjusted the firewall etc. It is fairly trivial using the RPMs IF you install (eg) webtop first - thanks to the webtop_team who have covered the installation of java etc dependencies. I did actually install it on a clean NethServer today. Thanks for setting up this feature discussion have used squid and web proxies in the past but moved to DNS filtering as I found it a more reliable way to categorise and block sites. Maybe we can re-use parts of those modules (for instance installing openjdk) we already have a few java based modules. We need to adapt those commands to the ‘NethServer way’ of adding services and opening ports.Īlso, NxFilter is a java application. The latest packages can be found here: RPM’s are available from a 3rd party repository: Īlso that howto mentions opening ports in the firewall. I found an install howto for centos7, but that howto uses an old repository to download the NxFilter RPM’s.
